1/ He was a man of God (which, to me, is always strange. How can you reconcile faith and science?) 2/ He was considered a joke during all his life 3/ He had the chance to know, on his deathbed, that his theory was now seen as something serious (a lot of famous scientist of old didn't had this chance) 4/ I am his tomb's caretaker. Sorta. He's buried at the Marcinelle's cemetary. We don't clean it or nuffin', we just make sure it doesn't go to waste. 'tis part of the "sepultures of local historical interest". And he's on the big wall.

Fun fact: he was very religious and therefore believed in a "steady state universe" (eternal and unchanging). He tried to prove his religious views with science, which kinda backfired, than proceeded trying to disprove his own thesis of an expanding universe.
